Scenario
A group of friends gather for a pre-wedding party that descends into an existential nightmare when an estranged friend arrives with a mysterious toy that awakens long-hidden secrets, desires, and anger. During the film, the background music plays throughout, which are variations on the second movement of Beethoven’s 7th Symphony. I really wanted this
It started off pretty well; I even liked the mechanic they used (which I won’t spoil here). As someone else said, it looked like it was going to get interesting pretty quickly. Instead, it spoiled the eye pretty quickly. The thing is, these friends are all meeting here in this house for a night of fun, okay – but we really don’t know them.
But is everyone else?
And since we don’t know them at all, we’re not really invested in what happens at the end. Sure, one pair is introduced early on, just through a very special lens. We got tips, not much more. They are drawn rather flat and broad, and we as an audience are not able to care enough about them beyond the surface.
I gave up 35 minutes
I think that what the film is trying to achieve here really requires investment. It’s like we’ve agreed to go on a roller coaster with them, but before we can even say hello and exchange pleasantries, we snap and move on to the next couple of occasions. hour. And the journey is a lot less fun than you think.
