There is a reason why 50% of the reviews listed on IMDB for this film are one star, but if you search for user reviews you can’t find a single written review that explains why (at the time of writing this). That’s because the politics of the election have certainly intervened and destroyed any chance of a real rating. I came to see the film on opening night and it was very good, it exceeded my expectations. It does a great job of replicating the 70’s and 80’s and Stan plays the evolution of Donald Trump extremely well. Roy Cohn is also played wonderfully by Jeremy Strong who also took the time to examine Cohn’s mannerisms and the way he spoke and integrated it into his acting. The film has virtually no political content, you do get hints of Cohn’s political past and some politicians make appearances, but for the most part the film is about where a young Donald Trump learned to navigate the complex upper levels of society where politics, law and money all intertwine.
